1st October 2020 dawned sunny and bright. Time to start on the pilgrimage. By the end of the day I’d walked almost 19 kms, ascended 590 m and descended almost as much. Here goes – the photostory of day 1 on the Two Saints Way (This blog will continue when I do my next walk.Continue reading “Two Saints Way – Lichfield to Cannock (Day 1 – S-N)”

The Two Saints Way
El Camino de los Dos Santos The Two saints way from Lichfield to chester and back I’ve been doing plenty of walking this past summer, but now I feel ready to undertake a new challenge – another Camino – this time an actual rather than a virtual pilgrimage. Camino means Way. The Two Saints WayContinue reading “The Two Saints Way”
Arriving to birdsong: Completing my Camino
Yesterday I arrived in Santiago de Compostela after walking 280 km, or rather I would have arrived there if I had been able to complete my pilgrimage in Spain. But as I can’t walk in Spain, I’ve walked it here in England. And so I completed the route equivalent of walking from Porto to Santiago.Continue reading “Arriving to birdsong: Completing my Camino”
Yesterday’s walk. Less than 30 km to Santiago
I haven’t been able to get out for a walk every day, but still I have slowly been walking the 280 km pilgrimage – albeit in England, not Spain. The other day I reached Caldas de Reis, or at least I did virtually. Yesterday I walked along the beautiful peaceful Cauldon Canal for 8 km.Continue reading “Yesterday’s walk. Halfway to Santiago (virtually)
140 kms walked – 80 in Portugal, 60 here in the UK. Just 140 kms to go. So that’s the halfway point reached (as far as our original plan of 280 kms). It’s slow going, only being able to walk for about an hour from my front door (because of the ‘stay at home’ restrictions),Continue reading “Halfway to Santiago (virtually)”
The Camino, the Way
This is a completely different post to what I usually write here. It’s inspired by reflections while I was walking the Camino in Portugal. Walking is such a wonderfully creative activity. The mind clears more while walking than at any other time. At least that’s how it seems to me. As I walked I wasContinue reading “The Camino, the Way”
Another 5 km
And that means 185 km to go!
Camino continued… From home
I am very fortunate to live across the road from a large country park. The entrance is only about 50 metres from my front door. So feeling better (I had been poorly with a cough), I am now able to continue the Camino. Obviously this is presently limited to one hour a day because ofContinue reading “Camino continued… From home”
Camino ‘magic’?
This is a Google map I had printed before we left on our trip. It was the plan of the route as far as Vigo, at which time John was meant to fly home, and Margaret and I would have continued walking. The highlit places along the route are where we had accommodation. Each dayContinue reading “Camino ‘magic’?”
Today we would have arrived
All things being well, today is the day we were scheduled to walk into Santiago – a relatively short walk after a night spent in Milladoiro. But it was not to be. Life is full of surprises, some good and some less welcome. The coronavirus pandemic definitely falls into the category of unwelcome! But toContinue reading “Today we would have arrived”
